FOUNDATIONS CLASS
Class meets once per week (see the bulletin or website for meeting times and location).
Why go through a New Believers or Foundations class? Here is Pastor John's testimony.
Testimony
When I first asked Jesus into my heart and surrendered my life to Him, a friend of mine who had led me to the Lord asked me if he could take me through a "Foundations" book. It was a book that real simply explained what it meant to follow Jesus. It pointed out key Scriptures that spoke very specifically about what I should know about my new life as a Christian.
I agreed to sit down with him and go through that book and it only took about five or six weeks. We would meet once a week, and we read the book together and he made sure that I understood these key Scriptures, passages from the Bible that explained why it was necessary for Jesus to die on the cross, why it was necessary for me to accept Jesus as Lord of my life, and the steps that the Bible instructs us to take in my new life as Christian.
I believe that the five or six weeks I spent with my friend Andy were VITAL to how I have lived out my life with Jesus since that faithful day in April of 1980. They established a firm foundation that never washed away. Jesus tells a story about a farmer who scattered seed. In that story, the Lord tells us that when we first receive the truth about Jesus, different things can happen. The seed can land on our heart, but if we don't cultivate it, it won't take root, it will never go into the soil and thus it will shrivel up. Or, the truth, if not properly cultivated, can be choked out by the "cares of the world." Or, the enemy can even come and try and grab hold of the seed before it takes root. But, Jesus teaches us that if the seed is well cultivated in good soil, it will take root, and those roots will grow deep and the seed will produce a crop, 30, 60 or even a hundred times what was sown.
Now that you’ve given your life to Christ, let's make sure the seed that God planted is well cultivated, and in good soil. Receiving the water and nutrients that will produce in you the joyful life and blessings that the Lord desires to bless you with.
That's what the Foundations class is designed to do; get you started well in your new life with Christ. Firmly planted and rooted in His truth. I personally encourage you to spend these short few hours to establish this foundation of God's truth in your life.
